The global mining industry experienced a 276% rise in compound annual growth rate (CAGR) in company filings mentions of metaverse since 2020. Key companies in terms of mentions include Bonanza Goldfields, A-Mark Precious Metals, and Sibanye Stillwater, according to GlobalData’s analysis of over 150 mining company filings.
Notably, since 2020, metaverse was the most referenced theme in terms of mentions, ahead of blockchain, artificial intelligence and big data, according to GlobalData's Company Filings database. Mentions related to metaverse increased by 156% year-on-year in 2021 and by 452% year-on-year in 2022.

Of the 50 leading companies in the mining industry, Wacker Neuson had the highest year-on-year increase in references to metaverse in 2022. GlobalData identified 3 metaverse related sentences in the company's filings in 2022, 1% of all sentences. Meanwhile, Companhia Siderurgica Nacional had the highest year-on-year increase in references for metaverse in 2021. GlobalData identified 2 metaverse related sentences in the company's filings in 2021, 4% of all sentences.
