Hiring activity related to metaverse increased by a CAGR of 63% in the power industry since 2020

The global power industry witnessed a 63% rise in compound annual growth rate (CAGR) in new job postings related to metaverse since 2020, according to GlobalData's Job Analytics database. New job postings increased by 60% year-on-year in 2021, and by 67% year-on-year in 2022.
Notably, computer and mathematical occupations jobs accounted for 28% share of the global power industry’s metaverse-related new job postings since 2020.
Computer and mathematical occupations drive metaverse-related hiring activity
Computer and mathematical occupations, with a share of 28%, emerged as the top metaverse-related job roles within the power industry since 2020, with new job postings increasing by 40% year-on-year in 2021 and by 103% year-on-year in 2022.
Management occupations came in second with a share of 15%, with new job postings rising by 38% year-on-year in 2021 and by 45% year-on-year in 2022.
The other prominent metaverse roles include architecture and engineering occupations (11% share), and business and financial operations occupations (10% share).
The top five companies in the power industry accounted for 52% of hiring activity
The top five companies, in terms of the number of new job postings tracked by GlobalData, since 2020 were Siemens, Schneider Electric, Xylem, Power Home Remodeling Group, and Dominion Energy. Together they accounted for a combined share of 52% of all metaverse-related new jobs in the power industry.
Siemens posted 489 metaverse-related jobs since 2020, followed by Schneider Electric with 142 jobs, and Xylem with 67 jobs, according to GlobalData’s Job Analytics database.
New job postings by Siemens increased by 16% year-on-year in 2021 and by 19% year-on-year in 2022, while those by Schneider Electric increased by 173% in 2021 and remained unchanged in 2022.
Hiring activity was driven by the US with a 49% share of total new job postings since 2020
The largest share of metaverse-related new job postings in the power industry since 2020 was in the US with 49%, followed by Germany (8%) and India (7%). The share represented by the US increased by seven percentage points from 47% in 2021 to 55% in 2022.
