Hiring activity related to robotics increased by a CAGR of 59% in the food industry since 2020

The global food industry has witnessed a 59% rise (on a CAGR basis) in new job postings related to robotics since 2020, according to GlobalData's Job Analytics database.

New job postings increased by 91% year-on-year in 2021 and by 33% year-on-year in 2022.

Production jobs accounted for 29% share of the global food industry’s robotics-related new job postings since 2020.

Production occupations drive robotics-related hiring activity

Production occupations, with a share of 29%, emerged as the top robotics-related job roles within the food industry since 2020, with new job postings rising by 185% year-on-year in 2021 and by 13% year-on-year in 2022.

Installation, maintenance and repair occupations came in second with a share of 24%, with new job postings increasing by 43% year-on-year in 2021 and by 29% year-on-year in 2022.

The other prominent robotics roles include management occupations with a 10% share, construction and extraction occupations (also with a 10% share) and architecture and engineering occupations with a 9% share.

Five companies accounted for 51% of hiring activity

The top five companies, in terms of the number of new job postings tracked by GlobalData, since 2020 were Campbell Soup Co., Nestlé, Tyson Foods, Johnsonville Sausage, and Unibel. Together, they accounted for a combined share of 51% of all robotics-related new jobs in the food industry.

Campbell posted 567 robotics-related jobs since 2020, followed by Nestlé with 384 roles and Tyson with 363 positions, according to GlobalData’s Job Analytics database.

New job postings by Campbell increased by 264% year-on-year in 2021 and by 9% year-on-year in 2022, while those by Nestlé rose by 184% in 2021 and by 65% in 2022.

Hiring activity was driven by the US with an 68% share of total new job postings since 2020

The largest share of robotics-related new job postings in the food industry since 2020 was in the US with 68%, followed by France (10%) and the UK (2%). The share represented by the US increased by four percentage points from 65% in 2021 to 69% in 2022.
